1902). Tissot was famous as a painterr of elegantly dressed women
shown in scenes of fashionable life. Here he painted two really
fashionable Neolithic girls.

pretty silly - her legs are shaved, her feet and hands are not the least bit dirty, and she even looks like she might be wearing lipstick....

It's indeed kind of a Victorian pin-up. But that what's history painting was mostly about, at least when it was about women.
ReplyDeletehaha, I suppose that's true. Come to think of it, every woman depicted in historical paintings had shaved legs. I don't know when that practise began...
